Last month, my best friend and I had a girls' night out at Sixpenny to celebrate the both of us getting new jobs this year. We started with the complimentary entree's which consisted of the Smoked Eel Croissant, Pecorino Doughnut, Macadamia & Capsicum Tart, and Pai Tee with Tuna.
The Smoked Eel Croissant was served warm and it was super light, fluffy, and delicious and the Pecorino Doughnuts were super cheesy and delightful to have. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Capsicum tart and the Pai Tee with Tuna too.
Our first dish of the night was their Red Emperor with Cucumber and Citrus Pepper. It was a refreshing and light dish to start the night off. Next up was the Kangaroo Tartare with Sweet Potato and Dried Cheese. This was honestly was one of my favourite dishes of the night. The flavours were just divine, the kangaroo meat was tender and the flavours were just in harmony with one another.
My other favourite dish of the night was their Spencer Gulf Squid with Peas & Orange Wine. The moment the butter sauce hit the dish, you could really smell all the flavours combine and the squid would literally just melt when you took a bite. I've never had anything quite like this before.
Next up we had the Spanish Mackerel with Poor Man's Orange & Red Pepper, which was just lovely. I originally thought this was a meat dish when it was first presented but once I cut into it and tasted it, it was delicious.
The final savoury dish of the night was the Borrowdale Pork Loin with Malted Barley & Kale. Topped with crispy kale, and the pork was juicy and succulent. The glossy sauce paired very well and had a very silky texture. This dish was delivered with a very satisfying flavour.
After cleaning up our dishes, we chatted for a bit as we waited for dessert to be served. The first dessert was their Mead Vinegar Custard with Frozen Raspberry & Strawberry Consommé. This dessert was super refreshing, light and delightful! I thoroughly loved the frozen raspberries and how the flavours blended well with all the elements.
The last dessert was their Goat's Milk Yogurt Parfait with Rhubarb and Geraldton Wax. Another on-point dish that was incredibly delightful to end the meal with. I'd highly recommend savouring the moment with the last two desserts.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Sixpenny and it was definitely worth every penny spent. From the service, food and wine, it was a memorable evening and I cannot wait to book in again for the change of menu, next season! I would highly recommend booking your preferred date as early as possible as bookings can be hard to get unless you look well in advance.
