The Long Table John Hardy | Bali Eats 🍹

Whilst in Bali, I made a last-minute booking at The Long Table by John Hardy for lunch with my brothers as I had heard some good things about this place. We sat on the second floor where we got to enjoy the beautiful garden view.

From our seats, we could also see the Jamu Bar where all the refreshing mocktails and cocktails were brewed up. It was a really relaxing environment and the staff were very attentive and friendly too. They explained the menu and shared some recommendations for both food and drinks.

We were served a welcome refreshment, Jamu Kunyit Asam. This drink is a mixture of tamarind muddled with turmeric and sugar syrup, shaken with lime juice, served straight up, garnished with kaffir lime leaf. It has the health benefits as a health tonic & period pain relief.

Kicking off with starters we ordered their freshly shucked oysters from Banyuwangi served with “Asinan” Bogor pickled pineapple and chilli granita. A tasty and refreshing way to cool the hot afternoon.

One of our favourite dishes of the day was their Tuna Tartare Magelang. Arak-infused tuna tartare with shallots, green tomato, sour starfruit and fermented balado sauce, served on tempura beetle leaf. It was light yet flavourful and fresh!

Next was their Mixed Satay, Indonesian skewers with dipping sauce cooked over charcoal BBQ. The selection of satays included chicken with Asian basil salsa, marinated tempe with peanut sauce, minced beef with sweet soy and chopped chilli and baby corn with Bali coffee emulsion. Overall very tender and delicious.

Nasi Goreng Tungku is Indonesia’s all-time classic rice dish re-imagined. Heritage rice from Tabanan cooked in a traditional terracotta pot with smoked mushroom, leek and house-made ‘Sambal Roa’, served with ‘Udang Galah’ from Keramas Village, Javanese scallop, ground nut, cured egg, and traditional pickle on the side. This dish was not only presented beautifully but was delicious too!

Along with the Nasi Goreng Tungku, we had the Assorted Krupuk, mixed local crackers served with two styles of sambal, mild to spicy: tomatoes, chillies, garlic, shallots, green chillies, garlic, shallots, and Balinese lime leaves. A simple yet powerful entree to enjoy!

We also ordered a Balinese classic with a John Hardy twist, the Nasi Lawar. This came with sliced fern leaves and smoked oyster mushroom mixed with coconut and bumbu Bali (Balinese spices). Served with aromatic heritage rice, chicken breast, Balinese daikon, moringa soup, steamed jackfruit ‘tum’ wrapped in banana leaf and grilled on the open flame, chicken satay and samba matah (chillies and shallots with cold pressed virgin coconut oil). It was really delicious, and the samba matah really brought the whole dish together!

Overall, my brothers and I had a really relaxing and enjoyable time at The Long Table John Hardy. Each dish was presented so beautifully, yet tasted delicious and fresh! I can definitely see myself returning again should I decide to visit Bali anytime soon, especially for their tuna tarte dish. If you're looking for a spot to just wind down and enjoy a relaxing lunch, I would recommend booking yourself a table now!
