Luc-San | Birthday Dinner 🎂

It's Leo season, which means many birthdays to celebrate including my own! This year my friend Tony and I decided to celebrate both our birthdays at Luc-San, a casual bar serving French and Japanese-inspired cuisine by Luke Mangan. Luc-San is tucked away on Pennys Lane in Potts Point, a brisk 5-minute walk from Kings Cross Station.

Upon entering Luc-San, I quickly noticed the bar, and the featured murals on their wall but of course, as we walked towards our table my favourite touch to the place was the vintage Japanese-inspired postcard illustrations they had on display on one of their boulders.

We started the night off with a drink, I got the Heiwa Shuzo Tsuru Ume Yuzushu ($18, 90ml) from the Wakayama prefecture, which was fruity and delightful. It has a strong yuzu flavour too. Tony ordered the Ota Shuzo Dokan Umeshu ($16, 90ml), from the Shiga prefecture, which had a higher alcohol content of 13.5%, however, tasted bitter-sweet with a fruity touch.

For our first dish of the night, we ordered the East 33 Sydney Rock Oyster with Sakura ‘Mignonette’ ($7/each), which we decided to get seconds as the oysters and dressing were absolutely divine! I am just salivating all over again while writing this up.

Next we had the Tuna Tartlets, Oyster Cream, Finger Lime Dressing, Togarashi ($14), and I loved the interesting combination of the tuna and oyster cream as they somehow worked great together. Also, the crunchy tartlet gave another layer of texture, so it wouldn't just be all moosh. Another dish I thoroughly enjoyed and would consider a second serving!

We were then served the Chicken, Yuzu Cream Robata Grill ($9/each), which was tender and the Yuzu Cream was delicious! The chicken by itself was just your average chicken without the dressing but was tender and well-grilled. You can probably give this a miss, if you're planning to get a meat main dish instead.

For our vegetable dish, we ordered the Brussels sprouts, Beef Fat, Wasabi Dressing, and Sesame ($15) as we couldn't resist when Tony and I both saw it was tossed with beef fat. The brussel sprouts were delicious, had a slight crunch, flavourful and not soggy at all.

Alongside the brussels sprout, we were also served our final dish, the Westholme Wagyu Flank MBS5+, Charred Broccolini, and Japanese Whisky Jus ($59). The steak was tender, well-marinated and quite delicious. We were definitely getting full by this point, but finished off this dish swiftly because it was tasty.

We also got dessert, Chocolate Cake, Yuzu Chantilly, Macadamias ($19), and were also served complimentary vanilla and green tea ice cream. The chocolate cake was the perfect hit alongside the yuzu chantilly.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Luc-San and can see myself coming back again for another neat intimate meal with some friends. The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff was all very friendly and attentive. My favourite dishes were definitely the oysters, tuna tartlets and brussel sprouts! So if you're in town, and need a cute little spot to dine at, make Luc-San the place to take your friends.
