Bar Morris | Shan't Return 🥩

Over the weekend, I booked a table to dine at Bar Morria via the First Table app, which offered 50% off the food menu, where I caught up with a friend.

Upon entering the venue, we noticed that it was quite empty, however atmosphere and decor were quite modern, with a classy touch. A few moments passed, and no one had come over to greet us, so we weren't sure whether we had to wait around to be seated or just take a seat on our own. While my friend went to the bathroom, I waited around at the entrance, where I noticed the bartender was the closest staff member to the entrance but was entertaining two customers at the bar table, and the one waiter was moving back and forth between the kitchen and one of the tables closest to the back, so both staff memebr's did not notice that we had entered.

Soon enough, I got sick of waiting around, so I approached the staff at the bar counter, and soon enough, a third staff member came out to take us to a table. We looked at the menu, which was a small menu, so it made it easier to decide on what to eat. We ordered four dishes in total, including the Zucchini flower fritters, Morris Lasagna, 250g Bistecca and Charred Broccolini.

After 30-40 minutes of waiting, all four dishes finally arrived, and both of our facial expressions were quite shocked to see the dishes that were presented in front of us.

Starting off with the 250g Bistecca, with Chianti jus ($37), this was described as their MB4+ flank steak with a red wine sauce. Firstly, the steak was overcooked and had a very chewy texture. Also, I could not see any marbling given the grade (MB4+, which is to be of a moderate to good level of marbling), and the sauce was so light that there was no flavour to begin with, topped with a lemon wedge that just made everything taste that much worse.

Next, I tried their Zucchini flower fritters with saffron aioli ($20), which already looked awful! I couldn't even tell if they were zucchini flowers anymore! The fritters were covered in a very thick batter, and just tasted like a very salty, burnt batter, where the aioli was just to cover the terrible cooking.

Moving on to the vegetable dish, the Charred Broccolini with romesco, and hazelnut vinaigrette ($14). Let's begin with the fact that it was not even 'charred' at all, it was blanched! You couldn't even see the charred! The dressing was just strange! It was chunky, sour, yet didn't bring any harmony to the dish at all...

Finally, moving on to the Morris Lasagna ($29), which I was hoping would be the redeeming dish as it was supposedly their signature dish, where the lasagna contained a slow-cooked bolognese ragú, ham, and fiordilatte mozzarella. Unfortunately, this journey was consistent as the lasagne was very bland and the pasta sheets were still quite hard, meaning it was most likely undercooked pasta sheets.

Once again, I couldn't find the third staff, so I went up to the bartender and asked for pepper and chilli flakes to cover up the bland and terrible flavours that just couldn't be saved. We ate what we could still stomach and decided at the end of the meal that we would not be returning... ever.

Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a very long time. The service was non-existent, and the food was terribly cooked and seasoned, not worth my stomach quota.

I noticed during our meal time, the bartender had asked the third staff member to take the rubbish to the back of the kitchen, where she had the rubbish bin in her hand and walked past behind my friend and a couple of other tables with customers seated, which I found very unhygienic and made dining very unappetising. My friend also noticed that the couple that entered after us were also shocked when they saw their dishes.

After paying for the meal, we went for another meal to make up for the terrible meal.
