"Harinezumi" when broken down 'hari' means needle and 'nezumi' means mouse in Japanese. Hedgehog cafes have been quite popular since its 2016. Some locations of the Harry Hedgehog cafes have more than just those cute little spiky creatures to pet and look at, such as Fennec Fox, Chinchillas, Hamsters and Otters.
The Roppongi franchise has three levels, the first being their reception area, second their hamster level and the third the hedgehog level. At this particular franchise they charge ¥1300/thirty minutes which doesn't sound like a super long time but I found it was more than enough to look at these beautiful animals as well as take a few photos too.
The friendly staff at the cafe shared a few house keeping rules such as wearing the provided gloves, refrain from talking too loudly and do not use flash photography. They also advise to not pick up the sleepy hedgehog as this may disturb them, I mean you wouldn't want someone waking you up in the middle of your nap, right?
Overall, we had a really nice relaxing time getting close with these beautiful calm creatures before most of my friends headed back to Australia.
