The moment my physio told me that they were serving ramen at lunch time for under $20, I was sold! Under $20 in this economy!!! If you're in the north and looking for a lunch spot under $20, consider Ramen Auru. This spot is located at Crows Nest on the busy road, Falcon Street.
I had noticed this spot growing in popularity the last time I visited the north for a separate meal, and it may be because of its unique ordering system via a ticket vending machine, cute tatami seating and a bowl of delicious ramen under $20!
Ramen Auru can get quite busy during lunch time, but luckily for me and my friend, we came just before the rush hit. Unlike any other ramen shop, here you’ll place your order on a ticket vending machine (or shokken), where you'll collect your food tickets before heading inside to finalise your order at the payment counter, before grabbing a seat either on the tatami floor or counter tables.
Both my friend and I ordered their signature Tonkotsu ramen ($19), where you can customise the hardness of the noodles, broth taste and amount of back fat! I also ordered the gyoza for an extra $6. The broth was rich and savoury with little fat back nubs floating around for extra umami! Plus, I asked for hard noodles, which were cooked perfectly. The gyoza was also quite delicious, and paired perfectly with the ramen.
Ramen Auru also offer a late-night deal every night where their signature Tonkotsu ramen is only $15! So if you’re looking for a late-night meal, from 10pm you can find the cheapest bowl of ramen here in Crows Nest!
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and managed to finish the whole bowl of the tonkotsu ramen all by myself, which is rare! I am keen to try their prawn bisque ramen, which is only available in the evening, so I will have to make the trip out for a dinner session! I highly recommend trying Ramen Auru out if you're in Crows Nest or looking for a cheap meal!
