DUBUDANG 두뢀당 πŸ₯’// Housemade Tofu: a little gem in Epping πŸ’Ž

Yesterday, I was working from home at my friend's place, where he suggested we get lunch at a restaurant nearby that had recently opened and that he was keen to try out, as he had noticed that it has been incredibly popular every night, with long queues.

I speak of none other than Dubudang, which has now been open for exactly one month, with a menu that focuses on housemade tofu. The owners are a couple, where the husband, Leo, took over his parents' tofu-making business, which started in Busan in 1998, and his wife is the head chef creating all the amazing dishes on their menu! Talk about a power couple!

They decided to close their Busan location last year to bring their flavours to Sydney, and I can honestly say this spot is truly a local gem! Let me get into the details!

Dubudang is located in Epping, a 2-minute walk from Epping Station.✨ You can tell the owner has dedicated the restaurant to feeling cosy, comfortable and enjoyable, as you will find it in the little details around the restaurant, such as their bill booklet, decor and the use of wood elements to elevate the space without having to try too hard. They have 14 tables that fit 2 people, so if you have a larger group, get in early so they can combine the tables for you. Otherwise, I found the overall atmosphere is calm and relaxing 😌.

Upon entering the venue, the staff quickly showed us to our seats, as we were lucky that there were no queues yet, but this quickly changed after 10 minutes.

With only 11 items on their menu, my friend and I decided to order the Seafood Soft Tofu Stew ($28) and the Pork Jowl Boiled Slices ($39) to share. The dishes came out pretty quick, and the portions were quite generous, so we felt very content after the meal! We also had some side dishes that you could have on their own or mix and match with the dishes too.

πŸ₯“ The Pork Jowl Boiled Slices were a little set that came with the most tender and succulent pork slices, firm tofu, radish kimchi, garlic, chilli, charred shallots and a soy-based condiment! Everything complemented one another perfectly without being overpowered. It offered such a clean profile; I felt like I could continue eating it without any guilt!

πŸ¦€ The Seafood Soft Tofu Stew, another banger! Not too heavy on the seasoning so you can really taste the seafood umami and flavours! The soft tofu was the perfect touch to make this meal feel very home-y! Paired well with the Gondre rice, combining the unique herbs and broth πŸ‘ŒπŸ» .

You also have the option to bring home some of their house-made tofu and soy drink, which is available at their front counter where you will find a cute figurine of Leo and his wife sitting on top! However, they are currently running an offer where if you write an honest Google review and show them your post, you will get a complimentary soy drink! Thanks Leo πŸ‘πŸΌ!

Overall, I would highly recommend coming to Dubudang if you're looking for a solid home-y heartfelt meal that just feels clean, revitalising and comforting! I honestly can't wait to bring my mum here as she loves eating tofu, but also to try out the other dishes that they offer as well! I did notice quite a few elderly customers eating here, which I think is because each dish isn't overpowered with too many flavourings or seasonings, and really focuses on highlighting the beauty of their housemade tofu flavours and its products. I can't wait to come back again!
