Ghibli Cafe in Neutral Bay | Cafe Porco 🐷

I started my first food adventure earlier this month with my mumma-bear where we headed off to Neutral Bay originally for some J-BBQ on a super hot day of 31 degrees but the new place I had in mind had not open for lunch hours (yet!). So we decided to walk down the main road and see what we came across instead. We stumbled across Cafe Proco where images of their dishes from their menu were displayed on their windows and the place looked really relaxing so we hopped right inside. We were shown to our seats and was handed our menu and table water from the friendly and attentive staffs. My mum  said she felt instantly calm, relaxed and welcomed here as it had a warm and family-friendly atmosphere.

As it was lunch time, we decided to order a dish each and also get a dessert to share afterwards. I also got myself a cup of their original Matchapresso to start off the meal.

Matchapresso (AUD $4.50) - is their original blend of Matcha + Espresso and comes in a beautiful black ceramic cup and saucer. The taste of the matcha and espresso was in perfect harmony as you could taste the bitterness from both the matcha and espresso blending with the creamy milk.

Poke Bowl (AUD $20)  - a Hawaiian dish with diced salmon marinated in citrus ginger soy sauce on brown rice, topped with edamame, nori wakame (seaweed), red radish, micro leaf, pickled ginger, cucumber and sesame. It was very refreshing and perfect on a hot summers day. The salmon was fresh and well marinated without being overpowered by the sauces' flavours.

Porco Katsu Sandwich (AUD $16) - bread crumbed pork loin, shredded cabbage with miso wasabi mayo katsu sauce. The pork katsu pieces were thick, juicy and full of flavour! Some places I've tried their version of the katsu sandwiches have ended up being dry and tough to chew, however the Porco's version was perfectly cooked and easily consumed. My favourite part was the sauce as the hint of wasabi would cut through the heaviness of the pork and its flavours.

Tofu Cheesecake (AUD $9) - the tofu cheesecake was delightful and delicious to eat! I really liked the sourness from the lemon in this cake as tofu can be quite a bland taste. The texture of the cake was smooth and soft where it tasted light and fluffy! It was plated beautifully on a charcoal-coloured slab plate with edible flowers and berries accompanying it to give it a splash of colour.

As I went up to pay for the meal, I noticed Porco Rosso sitting in the tip bucket! I asked the staff if they named their store because they loved the film and they replied with a yes! So in a way you're eating at Porco Rosso's cafe. Although prices are a little overpriced in my opinion, I would definitely come back again for their Matchapresso and Tofu Cheesecake as these were two items they did really well. The poke bowl and pork katsu sandwich were both delicious however I'm sure you'll be able to find a similar dish in the CBD too if you do not wish to make the trip out to the North side of Sydney.
