Sashimi Shinsengumi 🐟 | Affordable Omakase

Earlier this year in February I finally had the chance to dine at Sashimi Shinsengumi for their popular Omakase course with my friends. Omakase translates to "I'll leave it up to you (chef)", where Shinsengumi has become in high demand over the years for their reasonable prices, delicious sushi omakase course menu and limited seating's per month which makes the whole experience more exclusive and personal.
Foodies and sushi lovers continue to ring chef Shinji Matsui as soon as bookings are announced via their Facebook page hoping to secure themselves a spot in the next opening. I won't be able to help in securing you a booking but I can share what you can expect if you manage to get one or what you'll be missing out on if you don't get yourself a booking.
Most pieces are served at room temperature and are unglazed so the application of their DIY shoyu (soy sauce) is recommended to further enhance the umami of the various sashimi. When dipping your sushi into the saucer make sure to flip the sushi upside down so the fish is dipped in soy sauce and not the rice.

Starter: oyster in mandarin sauce, cubed tuna in yamaimo (mountain yam) and grilled salmon
Tenaga ebi (scampi)
 Hotate (scallop)
Torched Salmon
Amaebi (sweet shrimp)
Scampi head miso soup w/daikon & salmon
Hata(grouper) topped with yellow herring roe
Uni (sea urchin)
Anago (saltwater/conger eel)
Akami (lean tuna)Lean tuna w/fatty tuna on top
Kampachi (yellow tail)
Torched hiramasa (kingfish) belly
Snapper w/sea urchin on top
 Ootoro (extra fatty tuna)
 Tai (snapper)
Seared Hammerhead
 Ika (calamari)
 Aji (horse mackerel)
Salmon and cucumber hand roll
Tamagoyaki (Japanese egg omelette)
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the omakase at Sashimi Shinsengumi and would highly recommend to try secure yourself a booking. Although prices have gone up a little since I went I still think its quite worth it for the amount dishes you're served as well as the quality that is used. Matsui-san was also very friendly and lovely as we tried to speak Japanese with him and he would share with us each fish he was serving up. He even went to the front of his store to use his store sign in our group photo! All the dishes served were delicious but a few favourite did stand out a little more which were the ootoro, scallop, eel, scampi and the omelette.

Have you eaten at Sashimi Shinsengumi before? If so what was your favourite dish? Make sure to check their Facebook page for updates on their next availability.
